Largest project attempted so
far. Several hours of browsing
the net have given me plenty of
ideas. Choices were made based
on the level of my
experience (and the experience of my helper).
Another factor is what
I've been able to scavenge from the recycle bin.

Thomas drew the
pattern on a $1 piece of foam core board

The
lines aren't broken on the pattern, this is just my graphics
program being weird.

I then
covered front and back with 2 layers of newspaper strips.
Fan box is from our new fan, the stick and other boxes were
in the dumpster.
Thomas
marked the center of the box then drew the outline of the
stick on it. I cut it out with a hobby knife and put tape
around that so it didn't split.

Inside the bottom box. Cut up scraps of foam
core board are hot melt glued inside for
stability and to keep it square. One layer of pulp has been
added to the bottom and allowed to dry.

Thomas put a pool of hot melt glue
inside the bottom of the box, threaded the stick through the
hole and
set it into the glue. He then put a bead around the top of
the box where the stick came out. I added more glue inside
and outside to enclose the stick and make it all one piece.
I hope.

The two smaller boxes are hot glued to
the top of the bottom box and the sides of the stick.
I tried to keep it level, but one box is slightly lower than
the other. Guess a layer of hot melt glue will help that.
Height so far is 38 1/2"

The sizes of the boxes were close, but
not perfect, so I added some scrap foam board and masking
tape to make up the difference. Looks like it will take a
few layers of strips to get it just right.

Strips have filled in most of the gaps.
Any gaps that are too big will be filled in with pulp. Here
I've attached the cross to the pole with hot melt glue. Now
it's a little over 44".
