My high tech work area; the front porch. The topknot/stem hasn't been added yet. Here he's upside down.

Several toilet paper tubes were taped together with masking tape until it was as

long as I wanted it. Then a long strip of twisted paper towels were glued around it.

Sorry I don't have a picture of doing that part, but you can see it in the pictures below.

Ends were cut as needed so it would bend.

A clear cd (the kind that is put in a package as a filler)

was glued into the top with hot melt glue. The glue was put onto the cd, then pushed up to make contact from the inside. Once that had cooled, more glue was added for strength and allowed to cool.

A layer of pulp went over all of this and propped up on a tomato cage.

After the first layer of pulp dried, a second was applied up to about 5". This wasn't as strong as I wanted, so I really built it up with another layer. That took 2 days to dry.

Facial features were cut out and we found out that there was no wire; the framework was tightly rolled paper!

All the pulp is dry, and it's placed in a pizza box for painting. One coat of black satin spray paint went over the topknot and most of the top of DB.

What happens when the paint builds up around the nozzle.

Four hours later, it was dry and I turned it over, sprayed the bottom and let dry. A second coat was applied the same way. Thomas spray painted the inside purple and the excess came out like fog. Pretty cool when you're not coughing on the fumes. Because of the flash, he looks grey, but is really dark black. I didn't adjust the contrast so you can see the fog.

Green paint is next on the want list. Once I get that, his teeth will be green, similar to Rip's.
