Made for the October Mad Lab Challenge

I made a papier JOL around a balloon, like any other, only with a flat bottom.  Then cut out the window. You can choose to make it leaving the front open, but I had trouble with sagging, even when still on the balloon.

Kinda hard to see, but there is a red wire running through the back and up the side to the back of the shell. This is looking down into the bottom of the shell.

Inside, top left. This is the moon. Sure looks like one, right? That's what moss is for.

In the back, attachment for battery. We're using one 9 volt battery.

First two characters attached with hot melt glue. Strange how the dark green pulp in the background looks grey here.

After they are hot melt glued into place, I put a puddle of glue over their feet to make sure they stayed where I wanted them. Then moss over the glue to cover it up.

The moss hanging from the top. This color is not what you see in real life, it's a trick of the room light. This is un-dyed, so it's a kind of greyish tan.

The green moss was dyed with powdered fabric dye. It covers all the wires and LED's and makes it look more like a cave.

Close-up of the three figures, bought at a dollar store. I had no idea what I'd do with them when I bought them, but they were well made and I wanted them.

The figures are about 2 1/2" high

The shell is just a skosh under 8" tall and 8" across at its widest point.

The pulp was colored with the

same powdered fabric dye

as the moss.

There are plans for more of these as we find (or make) figures to go inside. The battery and wires will be better hidden next time, probably with a built-in bit of pm in the back.
