What I learned:
Unless clay is well conditioned, eyeballs and noses fall off.
Update 2004: Dinko now has a really fun book out. Check out Amazon.com.
This is the first name badge I tried to make. Busy, ain't it? I made the mistake of making all the canes the same size. I still fight that tendency today.
There are probably a dozen canes used, from leaves to kaleidoscopes. Someone actually bought it. A teacher who thought it looked like a blackboard, I believe.

The local craft store had these nifty little wooden birdhouses on sale for .25 and I had some Granitex waiting for a roof, so a star was born.
There is a little black bird with an orange beak looking out his front door.
This has been hanging on my front porch since 2001 and the only change I've seen is a bit of whitening of the blue side which gets the sun all day, every day. And that is patchy, so methinks it point to lack of conditioning rather than a fault
of the clay used.
