The Cartoon

May 28

I found a couple of pictures on

the net and munged them

together, then made up patches

of color using colors already

existing in the background.

Most of the Tesserae in Place

May 29/30

Almost done adding teensy-

tiny tesserae, but my hands and

eyes requested a break.

I've decided to grout da

bird in grey and the bg

in brown. Yes, I'm using the

same grout you would use on

the tiles in your bathroom.

Cured

May 31

All tesserae on and he (she?)

has been cured. At this point,

I'd guess about 6 hours have gone

into the project. That includes

puter time, mixing colors, making sheets and cutting tesserae,

putting the pieces on and

waiting with fingers crossed

as it same out of the oven.

Masked for Puffin

June 1

That's blue painter's tape

around our puffin. It extends

around his widdle body and

the glass he was made on is

taped to a 14" square

ceramic tile. Going to look

up how long the first grout

needs to set before masking

the bg and putting in the

brown grout.

What a Mess!

June 1

One grouted puffin

at your service.

It's Bleeding!

June 2

The places I was a little stingy

with the tape bled a little.

Easily picked out with

a toothpick and judicious

application of water.

The Grout is Dry

June 2

One puffin, grouted and dry.

Looks pretty good so far.

Background Grouted

Letting it dry awhile

before I remove the tape

I'm so skeered!

It was quite a hassle

tearing off and adhering the

bits of tape for between the

toes and tail feathers.

Tape Removed

June 3

Waiting for him to dry.

Removing the bits of tape

between toes was a hassle,

too. Toothpicks are a

mosaic-er's best friend.
