TIPS

Who am I to share tips with you? After all, I only started using papier mache in

August 2007. Well, IMHO, I think a newbie, especially one who is self-taught, may

be the best person to pass on tips. When you take a class, you are given tried

and true ways of doing things. But when you oops your way through, you may

just come up with new ways to do things.

A small disaster taught me how much moisture is good and what too much can do. Click here to see the disaster. Whining to groups and pm friends gave me some solutions. One was to cover the pulp with strips and that is what I did in this case. When I started, I made just enough pulp to get me through the next part of the project. Now I'm cooking large quantities and putting it through the blender, then letting it rest in colanders. This way it can dry out while waiting for the next step.

Some planning is essential, but be flexible enough to allow for changes if something looks better or more interesting than the original plan. Put hair up, use the restroom, fill your coffee cup, take the dog for his walk and put the phone on Do Not Disturb BEFORE you start.

Be sure that all of your strips are ready and that you have more than you need before you start. Unless you just like stopping to peel the dry glue off of your hands in the middle of the project.
