Papier Mache Cat

#1

September 9

Covered with 8 layers of newspaper and two layers of artist paper. I was able to fill in some of the areas where the two halves shifted, but not all. When I sand, I will take off some paper a little here and a little there to make the two sides match better.

Drying in the So Cal sun

Nearly Done

September 12

The whole piece was sanded with 150 grit sandpaper, wiped well with a damp paper towel and let dry. One layer of gesso was applied, sanded and wiped. When that dried, another layer of gesso was added, sanded and dried.

I took some pics of it when it was just  gesso, but didn't check to see if they turned out. Of course they didn't.

Here it is half painted with black acrylic paint.

September 13

Painted and ready for sealer. This one is probably going to stay plain black only because I can't figure out what to add. Cat 2 lends itself more to painting, so we'll see what happens to it.

Last sanding before final paint

All painted and waitingfor finish.
