Platform 1
September 6, 2007
It doesn't look like much
now, but there is hope for it. The bottom is one slab
with about 10 layers. On top of that are two bundles
with scrunched up newspaper all taped together.
This shows it all taped
into one piece with a few layers of paper over it.
So far it's 10" x 12" and
about 4 1/2" high. This will go under the Lemax Spooky
Town Village "Gothic Ruins" |

Left shows the whole lumpy
thing. Right shows one of the steps that small figures
will climb up to brave the monsters.

Note to self: Wet paper has NO
structural integrity. Prop branches
and other small
pieces up while they dry, but NOT against
something it
will glue its little self to. |

Adding layers and working
on building steps in the side of the hill. I took out
the Gothic Ruins and checked for size. It seems to be
right on. Thanks to Scott for all of your help and
showing me the best links.

I
started a little tree today, trying out how it works
when I twist paste-soaked paper and let it dry, then
adding layers. |

Size Check
The platform is being made for the
Gothic Ruins, so it was time for a check on how the size
is going. Looks like it will be just about right once
all the finishing is done.
|
Yup,
it's leaning. That's only because the top isn't level
yet. |

Platform is close to the size I
want. The top will be made level and any detail I want
on the side built, sculpted or otherwise.
Where there are high spots, I'm
using a tissue blade to shave a little off. This just
needs to be tall enough so you can see the ruins in the
back row.
|
Now
I'm playing around with adding paper towels, toilet
paper, drawing paper and whatever comes to hand. I don't
figure one layer of anything will hurt strength and I
may find a nifty texture or new material. |
