Simple Screamers

Screamer 1
My papier mache group issued a
challenge to make Simple Screamers. These are the brain
child of Dan Reeder, who likea making odd things out of
papier mache. He wrote two books about it, called "The
Simple Screamer" and "Make Something Ugly (For a
Change)". I found both of them on Amazon.com and
Half.com, but neither our city or county library system
has them. They are out of print and hard to find. Now he
has a book out called The Dragonmaker's Handbook.

Two scrunched balls of
junk mail plus one small one plus
a couple of twisted
stems, all held together with
mass quantities of
masking tape. |

UPDATE: This guy was EATEN.
First came the little birdies and he looked buckshot.
Then cats saw
little birds and investigated. Then
JRT saw cats and investigated. He became chew toy.

Screamer 2
Totally different than the first
one. All made with newspaper.

This shows the beginning of the
layer of pulp. First attempt at any kind of sculpt using
a mixture of cheap toilet paper and newsprint. His face
is getting some definition. |

This is where I'm going to stop and
let it dry. Rather reindeer-ish at this point. <g>
The rain has started and this is going to take a long
time to dry. |

I knew better than to make it
without a wire armature but my CTS was bothering me, so I
was lazy. So...of course there's no support but paper
and he has fractures and a droopy
horn. It didn't help that the roomie didn't see him(!)
and almost sat on him. Plop! Over he went onto his side. |

|
Repairs made. He'll dry for a few
days before I work on him more. Maybe I should call him
Patch. |

There were problems in back, too.
Most of those are fixed and he'll dry again. It's not
quite as round as it looks from this angle. |

All patched up and drying, but had
the camera set wrong and didn't realize til I'd gone on
to the next steps. sry |

May 15
First coat of paint. Maybe he thinks
he's Fred Astaire? |
