Condition your three colors of
clay. It's up to you what ratio you use; I chose to use the most
turquoise, second most orange, least green. Lay them side by side.
For this cane, I chose not to go for much of a blend, just to allow
whatever blend happened to happen. If you want more blend, overlap
them.
Roll it out until length is about three
times the length on the thickest setting of your pasta machine.
Condition enough black to match this length when rolled out on the
second thinnest setting of your pasta machine. (or thinner if you
like)
Cut the colored strip into thirds, turn them
and lay onto black strip. Trim messy edges and ends.
Roll up into a jelly roll. You can see how
many times it went round here. If you want more of the black lines,
roll the colored/black sheet out thinner before rolling up.
Start at either end and start rolling.
Snail!
Square off into a block.
Note: this is the first time I made
the cane and didn't take as much time as I normally would to square
it off. Take as much time as you need to make as square as you like.
Start cutting slices at the narrow end. You
can see in the image below how the slices start out simply and
become more complex as you slice.
