An acrylic shelf had been sitting
around for years
waiting for some use, but it didn't
fit any shelf unit
we owned, so I absconded with it.
The shelf is 10 1/2 x 37 inches, an
odd size.

A pile
o' bricks. Cardboard egg cartons were colored with
pastels, then torn up. Underneath the acrylic sheets are
3x5 index cards used as a guide to keep lines relatively
straight. A small paint brush was used to put on
the glue, then glue was brushed on the bottom of each
stone and stuck down. |

A patch
of stones laid down and drying. |

The
whole thing is laid out and drying. Next comes grout and
after that, a second layer of mache to build up the
sidewalk. |

A
section showing the tile with and without grout.
Glue/paste mixture with a bit of cheap toilet paper and
a dollop of black acrylic paint. I piped it in using a
plastic bag with a small hole cut in the corner. Even
though it was piled up high, it was too thin when it
dried. It was also very black, so the next batch
was more grey. Any shiny or thin spots were filled in as
needed and it was allowed to dry overnight. |

Close-up
of moss embedded in between. It's all still very wet so
there should be some lightening of the sidewalk. You can
see the grout isn't as dark as it was before. |
 |
Width of
each stone was the length of this card. It was used to
smooth the "cement" out and level it. Not too perfectly;
this is a dilapidated street after all. The edge of the
card also helped push the moss down into the cracks. |

Ready
for a sealer.
All in all, I'm very happy with
it.
